The Politics of Touch
Erin Manning

Subvenio voluptas tantum. Vae cresco terreo. Vicinus arbor coepi. Qui curtus aeternus. Vulpes alias texo. Sufficio magni alo. Cauda bardus cum.

Touch as reaching-toward.
Reaching-toward as a troubling of the modern political subject.
Touch as the force of a sensing.
Sensing in the movement of a body-composing.
Touch as a political event.

Erin Manning holds a University Research Chair in Relational Art and Philosophy in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Concordia University, Montreal. She is also the director of SenseLab, a laboratory that explores the intersections between art practice and philosophy through the matrix of the sensing body in movement. Current art projects are focused around the concept of minor gestures in relation to colour and movement. Publications include The Minor Gesture (2016), (with Brian Massumi) Thought in the Act: Passages in the Ecology of Experience (2014), Always More Than One: Individuation’s Dance (2013), and Relationscapes: Movement, Art, Philosophy (2009). www.senselab.ca
