South Central Los Angeles is both the backdrop and main character in Good Kid, m.A.A.d City. The film is a dreamlike sequence of image and sound, featuring alternating extended shots interspersed with frenetic, rapid-fire bursts of portraits of black life in America (here, vignettes of everyday people around Compton, clips of police brutality, and actual home footage from Kendrick Lamar’s childhood) and audio experimentation.
Kahlil Joseph, is an American filmmaker, music video director, and video artist. Joseph is known for creating intellectually and emotionally dense short films that center on the experience of African Americans in the United States.
