An Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove
Tiona Nekkia McClodden
Tiona Nekkia McClodden discusses her investment in the examination and creation of Black queer material culture through a close reading of the use of ritual, embodiment, and site-specific location within the engagement of archival materials within her practice as filmmaker and visual artist.
Tiona Nekkia McClodden is a filmmaker and visual artist based in North Philadelphia, PA. Her work explores shared ideas, values, and beliefs within the African Diaspora, or what she calls, ‘Black mentifact’. McClodden is interested in Blackness and traversing nostalgia; and how the past, present, and future can intersect visually and thematically within time-based work. She is invested in exploring intersubjectivities within Black communities as a tool for creating insider perspectives within film, time-based works, and objects.
